La Cortile
Grillon / Vaucluse

'La Cortile' is one of the most visually striking properties to be found in Provence. The attention to detail is extraordinary and results in a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere.

The "Wow Factor" in every respect.

Set in the heart of the village of Grillon these five, centuries old houses, rented as one whole, are linked together around a beautiful garden courtyard. They share a very elegant and intimate geothermally enhanced pool, a relaxing hamman, and an extraordinary dining/events hall.

Though one would be tempted to spend 24 hours a day enjoying this delightfully private space, the surrounding area is a must to explore.

Sleeps 27

All five houses are totally self-contained, have individual outdoor balconies and/or terraces facing in different directions and with delightful views. They are not rented individually, but as a group, thus giving all members of the party their space and privacy when desired. Should your 'holiday' mean keeping up with emails, then you'll find wifi available.

The plan above shows the three communal areas: the pool, the courtyard garden and the dining/reception hall.

'La Cortile' is ideal for an intimate celebration with close family and friends - a birthday, wedding, anniversary or simply an excuse for a getaway! Perhaps a business conference with the reception hall the ideal conference room. The possibilities are endless and the assistance to organise your event endless.....we have the contacts and the local knowledge.

The above dining/reception hall is superb. Extremely high ceilings, beautifully tiled floors, cooling colours and stunning candle light. Whether it be an indoor dining hall or conference area, the ability to seat around 40 people, with wall space for projection and immediate access to the garden courtyard......it's a delightful setting.....as is the whole property!

The above plan shows the position of this particular house, adjacent to and overlooking the swimming pool.

The eat-in kitchen with it's clean lines and warm materials, is a delight to use. Extremely well equipped, all you need are the fresh ingredients!

The clothes washing machine is situated here also.

The two single beds (70cm) on the mezzanine level are great fun for the younger children or an afternoon siesta.

Elegantly decorated, the relaxing shades of coffee-cream, the use of traditional iron and warm wood.....combine to create a wonderfully intimate atmosphere.

The lounging area is a delight, the comfortable sofas very inviting, the ambience instantly relaxing.

La Provencale

This house is slightly larger with three bedrooms each containing two single beds (90cm) which can be made up
as king sized beds (180cm). Each bedroom has an ensuite bath and/or shower room with w.c.

There are two terraces - one large open terrace with a summer kitchen on the second floor,
and one smaller covered terrace on the third floor.

On the ground floor of this house the kitchen is huge and inviting. It leads through to an equally large dining area which could seat everyone together, from all the houses. The kitchen is fabulously equipped with room for several 'chefs' to work together. American fridge/freezer, two electric ovens, 8 gas burners, grill, stone sink and more. The vaulted ceilings, stone mantle and paved floors are traditional and aesthetically pleasing.

Above is the map showing where this house is situated in relation to all the others.

The king sized bed (180cm) or two twins (90cm) is beautifully presented, the room spacious and the bathroom ensuite.

Locally made terracotta tiles, stone and wood surrounds and features....every room, every bathroom, every house is SO different.

The spacious lounge on the first floor is very "English" in decor and wonderfully comfortable with squishy chairs and an intimate atmosphere.

Above is the covered terrace on the third floor adjacent to the bedroom on that level. Another delightful spot to curl up with a good book.

The large outdoor terrace on the second floor is an absolute delight for al dente dining or lapping up the sunshine!

All bath and shower rooms have been carefully thought out, delightfully presented and with the use of natural woods, stone and marble.

Mirrors and lighting, hair dryers and towel rails....all the finer details have been thought of.

La Maison Bleue

This gorgeous house is on two levels with an access to the garden courtyard and another directly to the village square.
It has two bedrooms and two bathrooms plus an additonal two single beds for younger children. A laundry room
with w.c. apart, and a wonderful roof terrace with views of rooftops and the distant mountains.

The Provencal wood and plaster ceilings in the dining area and the large double windows combine well with the natural stone and mood lighting.....a warm simplicity with great comfort.

The above plan indicates the location of this house within the group.

Picture windows, an ecclectic collection of artworks - a wonderful marriage of colour, light, comfort and the exotic.

The other bedroom on this first floor level has two single beds (90cm) which can be made up as a king sized bed (180cm). It has a private bathroom apart with bath, basin, w.c. and towel rails.

From this level you access the open terrace with its views over the garden courtyard and the neighbouring rooftops.

Traditional vaulted ceilings, stone walls, marble floors and warm wooden furniture, the lounge area is a wonderfully intimate room for sipping something special and exchanging tales of the days adventures.

A most unusual wood burning fireplace between the lounge and dining areas. A large stone arch leads through to the well equipped kitchen and the stairs to the upper bedroom level.

Colourful, warm, inviting and fun! On this first floor of the house you'll find the whimsicle.....and the practical. The laundry with washing machine, sinks, toilet and facilities.

One of the two bedrooms on the first floor offers a queen sized bed (160cm), side tables, reading lights, writing desk and comfy armchairs. Its ensuite bathroom with shower, hand basin, w.c. and towel rails offers the creature comforts we love.

Each bathroom, as with each room in each house, has been individually designed, decorated and is an artwork in itself! With a melange of baths and showers (and the hammam!), there's something to appeal to everyone and to every mood!

La Toscane

This wonderfully elegant little house has access via the stone stairs or via the small back street. It offers one bedroom and one bathroom, delightful kitchen and cosy lounge, and an intimate terrace to complete the package.

Situated on a corner of the group and with windows overlooking the garden courtyard and adjacent to the banquet hall.

A well designed use of space, light and height. The lounge dining area is partially seperated from the kitchen by a half wall, allowing the light to flow through and conversation to continue! The kitchen is very well equipped and also houses the clothes washing machine.

The special features such as restored ornate window frames, carved wall sculptures, the use of natural stone and painted ciment floors and tiles, the mix of old, new, ornate and simple, all combine, throughout all five houses, to create a masterpiece.....a live-in artwork!

The bedroom has a queen (160cm) sized bed, reading lights, storage space and an ensuite bathroom with bath, hand basin and w.c.

La Lavandiere

The fifth of these houses is La Lavandiere, a most elegant house in its design, layout, decor and feel. With three bedrooms, each with its own ensuite shower or bathroom, seperate toilet for each, a cosy sitting room and a wonderful sun terrace. In the sitting room there are two small childrens (70cm x 140cm) beds. The laundry room houses the essentials!

The architectural and traditional details have been restored, the gentle curves and clean lines, the use of light and space, the sympathetic furnishings and the supply of all that is necessary for a functioning house and holiday home, have been thought of.

Below the map indicates the position of La Lavandiere within the group setting.

This delightful bedroom, decorated in gentle and romantic colours, is a delight. With two single beds (90cm) or one king sized bed (180cm), a fabulous ensuite bathroom and independant w.c., the layout, the light, the ambience, are all very welcoming and relaxing.

Warm wood, cool colours, hand made tiles, recycled doors and features pieces. Imagination illustrated in every corner.

Each bathroom has space for one's bits and pieces, good lighting and mirrors, outlets for hair dryers and shavers, and has a welcoming warmth in design and colours.

During the restoration of all these properties, the owners have endeavoured to retain as much of the original stonework, walls, shape and feel of the centuries old buildings. A slow and tedious restoration process, but one which has paid off as the overall finished product is quite extraordinary. Attention to detail, comfort and pleasure has been uppermost in their minds and the results reflect that care and attention.

Writing desks and upholstered chairs, double glazed windows and doors, traditional wooden shutters. There is a balcony link between La Lavandiere and Le Provencale houses, perhaps the original inhabitants were of the same family, close neighbours or "just good friends" !!

Simplicity in decor and colour. The interior design looks simple too but was certainly an enormous challenge and the resulting practical and sympathetic use of every square inch is amazing.

The marriage of old and new is dramatic and well designed. The rooms unique, the furnishings gleened from markets and dealers worldwide....a passionate 'production'....straight from the owners heart.

The swimming pool has an environmentally friendly geothermal heating system which enhances the water temperature
by 5 degrees. The high stone walls and the surrounding garden, combine to create an oasis to be enjoyed.
