La Maison à Caromb
Caromb / Vaucluse

This dominant property at Caromb in the foothills of the Mont Ventoux sleeps 12 with the possibility of 2 extra. Many aspects of this house are completely original dating back to the early 18th century when the property was used as an Inn for the postal service of the day, offering food and shelter to the brave folk and their horses delivering mail to the province.

Sleeps 12

The beautiful, trellace covered dining area occupies part fo the spacious terrace dividing the house from the secure swimming pool area. This is a fantastic place to spend time outdoors, whether eating, reading or just chatting with good friends.

This is a house to be lived in, enjoyed, respected. Everything has been prepared to ensure that its guests enjoy a short stay that will remain in the memory for many years to come. The owners live in the village and are always on hand should they be required.

Caromb, seen from the south of the village where Cotes du Ventoux vines dominate the landscape.
The Chateau du Barroux in the picture below can be seen here at the extreme left in the distance.

The spacious sitting room offers comfort and sophistication. Four large arched windows ensure that light fills this room all day long. In the colder months the open fire complements the central heating system, giving a warm and cosy feel.

The entrance hall provides a glimse of the original house. Caromb used to be a chateau'd village, but the chateau was dismantled over the years following the French revolution in 1789. Many of the Caromb houses built in the nineteenth century were constructed using stone from the chateau, and sometimes this is evident when you see a worked piece of stone oddly fitting into a wall

The elegant reading room has television and DVD. The internet connection is located in this room, so the best wifi connection is to be had here. French windows lead out from the reading room directly onto the terrace.

The sitting room and interior dining area share the same large room. In practice this table doesn't tend to get used because it's so nice to eat outside undeer the vine covered trellace.

The hallway is structurally unchanged in hundreds of years. This is evident when you see the bannister which which doesn't have a single weld holding it together! By contrast, the walk in lift is discretely accessible from here to all floors.

The kitchen is a typical Provencal design. Everything you need to cook up a delight is provided for, and of course the shops are moments away and open early till late. They do shut between 12.30 and 3.30 for lunch and siesta of course!

This is a house where you can spread out and relax. These two photographs show a little courtyard which separates the kitchen from a summer room where you can get comfortable and read a good novel.

This is an excellent area if you need somewhere to work quietly. The wifi internet works fine here, and the patio doors can be left open so it's nice and fresh.

Lac du Paty is a privelaged holiday spot for the locals who love to swim, fish, picnic and enjoy the hiking trails in
the surrounding area. In fact Lac du Paty is a dam, created during the mid 1700's, it has, over the centuries,
enhanced the quality of life for the neighbouring farms and villages alike. Originally used for agriculture as well
as pleasure, Lac du Paty is a five minute drive from Caromb.

The master bedroom on the second floor is a spacious delight. Not only does it benefit from wonderful natural light flooding into the room, it has its own private terrace where you can relax in complete privacy.

The en-suite bathroom complements the master bedroom perfectly.

When the present owners renovated the house they spared no expense to ensure that the house feels authentically Provencal. The floor is laid with terra cotta tiles throughout (except for a couple of bathrooms) and all the doors and windows are antique.

As with all the bathrooms there's a shower attachment in the bath. This is the most basic of the bathrooms in the house, mainly because it services the 'extra' rooms.

The room pictured to the right is an additional place for storage. The baby cot is kept in here, so this room can be used for the baby, or putting suit-cases etc.

Being such a large house there are in fact more bedrooms than we advertise, as the owner doesn't like the house to be over-crowded. This does mean, however, that there is masses of room to put your luggage and generally spread yourself out. If one of your group needs a quiet room to work, they have a choice!

The view from the terrace is stunning, a panoramic feast.

On the second floor, which is of course easily accessible even to the mobility impaired thanks to the walk-in lift, there is this large open area which is ideal for youngsters to play indoors in complete safety.

From here you have access to the en-suite master bedroom (above-left), a double bedroom (left) and a single bedroom (below) . The double and single share the bathroom (below left).

This single bedroom is ideal for uncle Burt, who snores like the proverbial. In fact, it's an extra bedroom, not counted in the 12 occupancy.

La Maison at Caromb is truly a charming, characterful, home away from home. The gorgeous basin style swimming pool dominates the walled garden, and the lush greenery offers shade and a fresh contrast to the Provencal summer sun.

The garden is maintained all year round by the owners who have an exceptional eye for detail.
Plants and trees abound giving the property a soft, country feel.

Elegant is the word that best describes this en-suite double bedroom on the first floor - you immediately feel at home the moment you enter.

One of the en-suite double bedrooms on the first floor. This room has its own drawing room (pictured right) so arguably could be called the master bedroom, but I prefer the second floor en-suite bedroom which has its own terrace. The bathroom is featured below.

This twin bedroom does not have en-suite facilities. It shares a bathroom with the other single bedroom on the first floor.

All the bedrooms enjoy air conditioning for your comfort and enjoyment. For those who prefer to do things the traditional way, sensible use of the shutters and the windows will ensure that the rooms remain relatively cool, even in the hottest weather.

Obviously a great place to sit and read, but this room would also be the ideal place to hold a more formal meeting if business plays a part in your stay at Caromb.

Pictured above and below, a further en-suite double bedroom on the first floor of the house. Wonderful big windows flood the room in light. Every room in the house has its own character, each as appealing as the other.

At last, we come to the end of the bedrooms! A single bedroom with a nice view and a shower room directly outside the door.

Getting comfortable is the easy part, fighting over who has which bedroom is another matter entirely.
