La Petite Colline
Caromb / Vaucluse

La Petite Colline sits quietly amidst flourishing cherry orchards and vineyards with views of Mt. Ventoux, the Chateau du Barroux and the village of Caromb. The old stone structure has been restored without losing its total "rustic" feel and atmosphere.

The setting is ideal with views, tranquility, a short walk to the village and a close proximity to all that Provence offers. Though there's a wonderful pile of house decorating magazines there to read, I can only guess they were purchased after the event!

If you can imagine the family country cottage, shared by generations and furnished with an array of their collected bits and pieces, then that well describes La Petite Colline.

Sleeps 10

From the terrace to the garden, along the paved path, a guard of Iris and wild herbs, down a few stone steps and you'll find a large grassed area ideal for the family game of ball ... whatever rules you follow! Olive trees and lavender, oaks and wild scrub .... nature and man in harmony again.

The privacy from the pool and "playing field"/grassy area is total. Vines and cherry trees in the distance, aromatic lavender by the pool ....... the sounds of silence!

The traditional "basin" is set beside the terrace and under the shade of the big old tree. Goldfish are in fish heaven, the potted plants thrive, the surrounding fresh herbs are the 'piece de resistance' in your salads!

Sun loungers, and armchairs, shade umbrellas and overhanging greenery, stoned walls and cooling pool waters ... what more of an invitation for a lazy afternoon.

The wing of this L-shaped house offers a covered terrace with charcoal bbq, dining table and chairs and a view down to the pool to keep an eye on the kids.

Though the village of Caromb, with it's Tuesday morning market and array of cafes and shops, is only a 10 minute walk away, and the views of the Chateau atop the village of Le Barroux is clearly your neighbour ...... you've the feel of being away from it all.

Virginia creeper hugs the walls of the old restored cottage. Double French doors lead from the lounge/dining area and the kitchen to the terrace; the upstairs bedroom windows overlook the lush green garden and distant hills.

The fabulous old floor tiles throughout the downstairs are warm in colour and feel. Enhanced by ethnic rugs and a
mix-and-match decor, the whole house emits a "casual friendly, laid back relaxed, ......" feel about it. French doors leading to the terrace and garden beyond.

Traditional Provencal wood and plaster ceilings with solid wooden beams add another warmth to the feel of the house. Should you be visiting in cooler months ..... the open wood-burning fireplace is great to gather around ... especially if there's a pianist amongst you who can twinkle the keys in the background. As the words of the song say ".... the piano keys are black and white but they sound like a million colours in your mind ....."

Upstairs on the second floor and with views in two directions, this double bedded room is a little like a 'studio' in itself. Writing desk, sofa, banquette and telly, oodles of books and superb views.

Should indoor dining be the order of the day, then the spacious table in its cosy surroundings and with romantic lighting is there.

With a piano on hand, budding muso's can delight (or take delight in annoying!!) the gathered audience.

The kitchen is large, light and very country cottage. The same ecclectic mix of furniture, the cupboards and drawers overflowing with all sorts ..... have a rumage around, I'm sure it's all there! The 4-hob cooktop is gas; two porcelain country style sinks - terrific for washing up or soaking the lettuce leaves. The dishwasher, the microwave, the small oven/grill and the fridge/freezer are all installed and ready to be of service.

On this ground floor level there is a w.c. with hand basin, saves climbing the stairs to the other bathrooms.

The bedrooms on the first floor share a bathrooom with bath, hand held shower, double zinc basin and superb views over the adjoining orchards and beyond.

Bedroom number 5 is also on the very top floor, again with sunshine from two directions and with plenty of space for adults or children to relax in comfort. There is a double bed, sofa and hand basin.

This is very much a 'family' house or one to be shared by close friends who love the casual atmosphere, the feeling of being away from it all .... though in close proximity to villages and commodities ..... and who love to commune with nature.

This 'black and white' bedroom, on the first floor, has a double bed and an Indonesian feel about it with woven wall hangings, wood carved figures, hand painted treasures. The old floor stones, the wood beams and the fresh white simplicity marry well to create a casual comfort.

The "blue and white" bedroom, also on the first floor, has a double bed, hand basin and bidet, with the family's artworks adorning the walls.

This very top floor bedroom has two single beds, very low so great for kids or teenagers who've not yet discovered back aches! ..... and great views. Light comes in from two sides and 'warms' the room.

These two top bedrooms share a shower room with shower, w.c. and hand basin.
