The Old Mill
Claviers / Var

Now a unique hideaway, this 17th century oil mill rests beside a river at the end of a country lane. Having retained the maximum possible of the old mill structure, the house is a delightful mix of old and new, light and space.

"Rustic, bushland, hideaway"
An atmosphere of total privacy, calm and tranquility.

Fancy taking a sabbatical to write the long dreamed of novel.....this is the spot to be!

Terraced in stone beside the pool, there's amble space for the cushioned sun loungers whether you're seeking shade or direct sunlight. If you prefer to be in the 'altogether'.....go for it....only the fish in the river will spot you!

With direct access from the lounge and kitchen, this terrace is shaded or sunny depending on the time of day and year and is forever wonderfully private. Whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner......it's a very inviting spot.

There are two small charcoal Weber bbq's....grilled aubergine and red peppers perhaps, or a Sanglier sausage......whatever you prefer, endless possiblities.

Hidden away from the house and the pool, under the shade of the well established bushland, the ideal spot for cool dining, writing or reading ..... away from the world and its worries .... and no, the wifi doesn't work this far from the house. What a blessing!!

Sitting beside the river with its cool flowing waters, the terraced garden areas have been sympathetically created using local stone and native plants mixed with the colour and scent of others that thrive there.

Should you feel like wandering up to the village, it takes about 30 minutes to walk there. A delightful walk, communing with nature and passing delightful views along the way.

The depth of the river can vary, its magic remains constant.

A great spot to chill the champagne ... don't forget to tie a string to the bottle if the river is deeper .... hate it to disappear!

Stunning original stone walls rise to great heights......the glass wall opposite looks out onto a courtyard where you can see the old stone structure of the mill, old mill stones remain, arched niches and old machinery parts.
A piece of living history.

The kitchen/dining room is long and light. One wall being of the original stone mill, the rest glass looking towards the central courtyard. Traditional wooden beams on the ceiling and a galley-style kitchen.

The kitchen offers a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave/oven/grill/combi cooker, a four-burner gas cooktop. The large country style sink and all the utensils help create that rustic, laid back feel of the whole property.

There are some superb architectural structures which remain from the old mill days. The central courtyard is truly the 'centerpiece' of the house and is an artwork in itself.

Huge old grinding stones remain, trees are now planted in what was an enormous old vat; the niches held and still hold, some of the larger pieces used during the oil making process.

This bathroom is on the ground floor adjacent to the master bedroom. The jacuzzi bath with hand held shower, basin, wc, bidet and heated towel rails are surrounded by stone walls and the clean lines of shiny white tiles.

All "mod cons" without it being over the top modern and losing that "bush hideaway" laid back feel.

There is one double bedroom (160cm bed) on the ground floor with double glass doors opening onto the central courtyard. Lots of built-in hanging and shelf space.

The twin bedroom on the first floor can be made up as a king sized bedroom. A large window overlooking the central courtyard brings in lots of light.

Adjacent to this bedroom is a shower room with hand basin and the washing machine. Clothes can be dried outside on a line beside the river. There is a seperate w.c. at the bottom of the stairs.
